Sustainability-related questionnaires
The number of sustainability-related questionnaires sent to Stora Enso has increased rapidly over the last few years. Research companies providing services to investors have been particularly active.

During 2002, Stora Enso replied to 23 surveys, including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (See also Awards – Award winning performance), EIRIS, Henderson, the Investor Responsibility Research Center, Robur, and Skandia Asset Management.

Questionnaires normally cover all aspects of sustainability - economic, environmental, and social issues.

Stora Enso's units also answer numerous questions from stakeholders, such as customers, the media, local citizens, and NGOs. The substance and frequency of this dialogue are not monitored systematically.

Which human rights and labour rights charters does Stora Enso endorse?
Stora Enso endorses the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the core ILO conventions, the UN Global Compact and the OECD guidelines for multinational companies. These are incorporated in Stora Enso's Corporate Social Responsibility Principles.

Does Stora Enso have training or incentive schemes for its employees concerning workplace health and safety?
Yes, these schemes cover workplace hygiene, occupational health and safety and employee well-being.


How does Stora Enso communicate its labour rights policies to employees?
Labour rights are part of the Stora Enso CSR principles which are available to all our employees in the company intranet. The communication takes place through line organizations. Training, presentations and written material are handled and distributed also by the Group CSR function.

Has Stora Enso implemented a Total Quality Management system?
Stora Enso's TQM system, known as Excellence 2005, is the Group's corporate-wide management tool for continuous improvement; the same overall framework has been in place since 1995. A total of 120 units out of 160 units carried out self-assessments in 2001; in 2002, the coverage was 100%.

How does Stora Enso manage customer related information?
In accordance with Stora Enso's TQM model Excellence 2005, the Group has systematically made customer satisfaction surveys since 1996. Key customers are interviewed globally and the results form a database that is available to all divisions.

Does Stora Enso have defined corporate codes of conduct?
In the Stora Enso Principles for Corporate Social Responsibility, the company has defined codes of conduct for business practice, communication, community involvement and human rights.
