Suppliers provide key information on their products on chemical safety data sheets. At each mill site, chemical safety is the responsibility of named and trained chemical contact persons. Stora Enso utilises various databases to make the necessary safety information easily available for everyone who handles or uses chemicals.

A list of the systems and schemes used in Stora Enso units in the US, Sweden, Germany and Finland.

  • The Dolphin system, used for Stora Enso's US mills, currently includes 7 600 material safety data sheets.

  • The ChemSource scheme, managed by the Swedish Pulp and Paper Research Institute (STFI), is used by member companies in Sweden. Stora Enso's application is called Chemsoft and the relevant health, safety and environmental information is available in 11 languages, and covers about 12 500 chemical products and nearly 6 250 chemical substances.

  • The GefStoffNet system is used in Stora Enso's German mills, allowing the administration of safety data sheets and related information via Intranet.

  • The SINET (Safety Information Intranet) scheme will be fully implemented during 2003 and used by Stora Enso's Finnish mills.
