Paper and other forest products
are produced globally and used throughout the world;
the table Estimated Consumption of Paper and Board
2002 shows total consumption of paper and board per
main market area. Gross Domestic Product rates have
traditionally been a leading indicator for increases
in paper and board consumption, though population
growth and urbanisation are key elements affecting
future consumption in various locations. The ongoing
restructuring in both the supplier chain and customer
base also influences the market, triggering a need
for cost competitiveness and a higher level of service.
