China, Brazil and Russia are the most important emerging markets for Stora Enso. The challenge now is to translate corporate principles on sustainability into action. In 2004, Stora Enso set up a programme to establish a sustainability agenda for the plantation in Guangxi, China. In Russia, Stora Enso is improving sustainability management along the wood supply chain together with key customers and suppliers. At Veracel, a co-operation agreement was signed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), who will independently assess the socio-economic impacts of Veracel's operations on local communities. Regarding the sustainability aspects of products, Stora Enso has decided to introduce certified product safety systems by the end of 2006 at all other mills producing direct food packaging. Furthermore, Stora Enso Transport and Distribution has created a plan to integrate the Group CSR Principles into its operations.
