The ultimate goals of determining performance standards are to make wood products easier to use, to highlight their reliability, and to increase the overall use of wood. Standardisation also helps in marketing products, and is one factor that enables mass production.
Stora Enso also works together with woodworking industry federations and research institutes to initiate and conduct research aiming to standardise timber products. Joint research projects examine subjects such as biological durability, strength grading, glue lamination and finger jointing techniques.
