“Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.” - The new tenth principle of the UN Global Compact
In June 2004 the UN Global Compact adopted a new tenth principle, which addresses corruption, reflecting the recently adopted United Nations Convention against Corruption.
Stora Enso was among the Global Compact participants who were consulted on the addition of this tenth principle. Stora Enso’s own CSR Principles clearly prohibit any practices definable as bribes, kick-backs, price-fixing and similar offences, so the Group was able to offer its unreserved support for the new Global Compact principle.
The adoption of the tenth principle commits Global Compact participants not only to avoid bribery, extortion and other forms of corruption, but also to develop policies and concrete programmes to address corruption. It is automatically assumed that all participants will adhere to all ten principles as of 24 June 2004. During 2005, Stora Enso will continue to address business practices and seek ways to mitigate identified challenges or risks.
